SLJ W3 D2 A2

Week 3
Day 2
Activity 2: Carbon Sinks Don’t Stink! [4 points]
Today I am listing all of the foods that I would put in my special
draining sink.

The reason there is a lot of dairy products in here is because I am
dairy free so I am not allowed them.

  1. Kia Ora Jess,

My name is Rachel and I am working on the Summer Learning Journey programme this year. It is wonderful to see that you have joined us for another great summer of blogging. Welcome back!

I have really enjoyed your posts and can see that you are making awesome progress through the SLJ. I found this particular activity really interesting to read as my son, Aronui, is also lactose intolerant and unable to eat much dairy. He was diagnosed a couple of years ago but appears to be outgrowing it slightly as he doesn't have the same reaction to ice cream and some yoghurts that he used to have. Are you able to eat yoghurt?

I can also see from your post that you would put asparagus, mushrooms and brussel sprouts in your sink. Fair enough! I don't know many people who like brussel sprouts! I do, however, know some people who like mushrooms. What is it about mushrooms that you don't really like? Is it the texture or the flavour? Most of the foods that I don't care for are too moist and soggy for my liking (eg. creamed corn, seafood chowder, etc).

Finally, I'm not sure if this will help, but Aronui is able to have some cheese that have a lot dairy content (Eg. parmesan cheese). I'm not sure if you have tried this, or not, but it may be worth a try if you'd still like to have some cheese every once in awhile that won't make you feel sick.

Hope that you and your family are having a lovely day together! I am just about to go walking with Aronui. We like to go for adventure walks in our backyard in the afternoons...

    Bye for now!
    Rachel :)
