SLJ W1 D1 A3

Week 1
Day 1
Activity 3: Scaling New Heights [6 points]

For this activity, please select a charity that you are interested in. You may
choose your own or use one from our list (below). Read about the charity.

On your blog, write a short explanation of what the charity does.

I chose to do the Air Rescue because it is for Canterbury and the West Coast and I
live on the Coast. This stuck out to me because I have heard of the rescues they
have done and know some people that the Air Rescue team has saved.

The Westpac Air Rescue is the helicopters that save people on the West Coast and
Canterbury. There have been 14000 rescue missions. The Westpac Air Rescue is a
charity because it uses money that people have donated for their helicopters and
lots of other things.

  1. Kia ora Jess,

My name is Leisha Ferguson and I am with the Summer Learning Journey. I live in Auckland and I am part of the team that will be commenting on your blog posts over the summer. I am really looking forward to getting to know you and reading your interesting blogs :)

Firstly , well done on making a fantastic start of the week one activities already! It is great to see you have been very busy and engaged already. I like that you have chosen the Air Rescue because it is close to your heart. The fact that you know people that they have saved before, means that you have a strong understanding of the important job they do. Wow 14000 rescue missions is amazing! I also love that you have not only attributed the image you have used with a link to their website, but also that the links you have provided are for their givealittle page. I am interested to know, what you thought was the most interesting thing you learnt about Air Rescue when you were researching them?

Keep up your great posts Jess. I cannot wait to see what you will post about next!

    Leisha :)

  2. Thank you for the comment Leisha. The thing that I found the most interesting was that they have had 14000 rescue missions. I also forgot to add that someone in my family works for the Air Rescue in the North Island. I hope you get to see my other posts throughout the holidays.
    Thanks
    Merry Christmas
    Jess

    1. Hi Jess,

Oh wow, that is awesome that one of your family members work for Air Rescue.

Are you on school holidays yet? What do you and your family have planned over the summer break? I am off to Otorohanga (where I grew up) on Sunday to spend Christmas with my family. I cannot wait! It's my favourite time of the year.

    2. Hi,
      Thanks for the comments.
Yes I am on holiday now since Monday. Well I have 3 baby cousins that have been born in the last year. One lives in Australia so they are coming for Christmas. Each year we either spend Christmas with my mums side of the family or my dads and sometime both this year we are going to both. Christmas is my favourite time of year as well because I get to be with my family.

      Merry Christmas
      Jess

    3. Hi Jess,

Lucky you! I know a few schools and kids that are not on holiday yet. They will be finishing either tomorrow or Friday. We try to see both sides of the family for Christmas every year, but that does get a bit tricky sometimes. This year I am spending Christmas eve with one side of my family and then Christmas day with the other side of my family.

That is super exciting that you have 3 baby cousins. Will this be your first time meeting the one coming over from Australia?
