SLJ W2 D2 A1

Week 2

DAY 2: TAKING ACTION

Activity 1: A Long Walk to Freedom [4 points]

For this activity, please imagine that you are Mr Mandela and that you are
living at Robben Island prison. You have been given a journal and each night
you write in it.

On your blog, write a journal entry imagining that you are Mr Mandela. What do
you think he did each day? How did he feel? Include as much detail as you
can in the journal entry.

  1. Kia ora Jess!

Kei te pehea koe? (How are you?) I hope you are having a fun-filled Friday!

I am really impressed with your completion of this activity. You have gone above and beyond what was required for this activity too! Amazing! I love how you have not only written one journal entry, but four instead! You have really thought about how he would have felt throughout his entire prison experience, from day one through to his last day. I like how you described his room on night 1 as very small by saying he is feeling claustrophobic and the size 4 steps by 2 steps.

It must have been an amazing feeling reaching that last day, knowing you were going to be released the next day. I like how you described what he was looking forward to seeing/doing and how simple they were. To see the sun, to taste real food and to wear real clothes. Although they seem simple to us, I can definitely agree he would have been very excited to experience them all again from the otherside of prison.

Another amazing post Jess. You are doing a great job!

    2. Hi Jess,

I think it would definitely be very lonely. I also think you would eventually start to get used to it but you would miss the outside world and people a lot too.

Did you enjoy this activity? I think it is a great activity because it teaches us to think from another perspective and put yourself in someone else shoes.
