Activity 2: A Call to Arms

Activity 2:  A Call to Arms

Sergeant James Allen Ward, RNZAF

I chose James Ward because he jumped on the wing of his fighter plane thousands of feet up in the air because it was on fire from another plane shooting it.  He was able to put the fire out but the petrol still leaked out, but he was able to make it home. He was the pilot so jumping out on the wing was pretty amazing.  I would have never done that!
He got his medal one month later and then he died a couple of months later in the war.

  1. Hi Jessica

Well done with this activity, you have certainly chosen a very heroic New Zealander and one that is truly earned his Victoria Cross Medal.
How brave is he to jump out onto the wing of his plane so high up in the sky. That is truly an incredibly brave thing to do.
I am so pleased that he received his medal before he passed away. So that he knew that he had won such an honourable award.
His family must be so proud of him.
There are so many amazing stories that we hear from the war and the brave men and women who fought for our country.
Well done Jessica I really enjoyed reading about James Ward another truly great New Zealander.

    Good work keep it up!

    Until next time

    Allie :)
