Activity 1: An Eventful Experience

Day 4: Another World War (1939-1945)

Activity 1: An Eventful Experience

September 3rd 1939. Britain, France, New Zealand and Australia declare war on Germany.
Acting Prime minister Peter Fraser said that New Zealand will join the war with Britain and other countries because they wanted to not let Germany take over Poland.  They sent a message to London saying that they would be joining the war.

15 August 1945: VJ (Victory in Japan) Day.  The Allies dropped an Atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan on August 6th and then 3 days later dropped another atomic bomb on Nagasaki, Japan.
So then Japan surrendered and this ended the war.  They were the last country to surrender.  The bomb was so bad that the world agreed to not use them again.

I would not like to go to war because it would be so horrible but they were doing a good thing to fight for our country so Germany didn't take over.

  1. Hi Jessica

Well done you have really explained these two events in history well. I agree with you that I hope that we don't ever have to go to war again either. It would just be terrible.

There are some really horrible things and events that happened back in the war years. And many good people lost their lives fighting in a war that they sometimes didn't really understand, which is quite sad.

Imagine what is would have been like living in New Zealand and getting on board a ship in 1939 and sailing to the other side of the world to fight i a war. Hard to imagine isn't it.
And the dropping of the atomic bomb was just horrendous to think that they could do that to other people. I am sure glad they don't use it anymore.

Well done and great work on this activity Jessica.

    Keep blogging

    Until next time :)
