Week 3

DAY 1: A Heated Debate

Activity 1: Togs or Trackies? [4 points]

Today I had to tell you what time of year I think is best for tourists for come and visit.
I have to be sure to share at least three things that tourists could do while they were
here in NZ.

I think the best time of year is the summer because you can go to the beaches on hot days. It is
the holiday here during the summer so it is usually really busy though but it’s still nice.
1.The first place you could go is down to the bottom of the South Island and Queenstown or go around
the Milford Sound because it's really nice down there
2. The second place you could go is to a nice beach. There is a really nice beach at Hokitika and there's
some nice shops there or there's other beaches all around New Zealand that you could go to.
3. The third place you can go is Christchurch because if you are a person who likes to go shopping there's
lots of nice  malls there but it would be very crazy busy in the summertime
4. The Fourth place you could go to is Wellington because there it's really nice to do on the ferry from
Picton to Wellington and there's lots of nice places to go on the harbour  and look through the shops
5. The fifth place you should go to is Rotorua because I've heard that is really nice there because there is
a forest that you could go on walks and a nice Lake that is  very stunning.

Week 2
Day 5
Activity 3: Faded Glory [5 points]

Today I had to list three different ideas or strategies for raising funds to preserve the
Great Barrier Reef. What could I do to fundraise here in New Zealand?

  1. Schools could do raffel’s to raise money for the Great Barrier Reef

  1. You could make money by stopping people from damaging the reef by keeping rubbish
  2. out which would save you from spending so much money each year on fixing the reef.

  1. You could have sausage sizzle at popular places which could make money for the Great
  2. Barrier Reef.

  1. You could have a competition like who can make the best cake looking like the Great
  2. Barrier Reef which you need to pay to enter. You could have an auction to sell the cakes.

I have been to a coral reef in Fiji. It was amazing to swim with the fish but I have never been to
the Great Barrier Reef before.  It would be even cooler to go there because I could compare the
different fish there to in Fiji and it is much bigger so that would be cool as well. I am going  to
Fiji next year and I will probably go to the same reef again. I am really excited.

Week 2
Day 5
Activity 2: The Black Drain [4 points]

Today I have to use Google to help me find two other polluted rivers in New Zealand.

On my blog, tell you:
1) The names of the rivers.
2) The location of the rivers.
3) What is being done to clean up the rivers (if anything).
Wairua river
Name of the river:
Wairua
Location of the river:
Northland
What they are doing to help clean river:
Lots of people are putting rubbish in rivers that's what's
polluting them so they are trying to put the rubbish in landfills

Tukituki
Name of the river:
Tukituki
Location of the river:
Hawkes Bay
What is being done to help clean the river:
They are keeping people and dogs out of river and
putting fences up to stop stock from going in.

I think it is silly that people are blaming farmer for river pollution because yes stock do make a
wee bit, but what about all the rubbish and plastic that is going in to the rivers and lakes stock
don’t make that mess.

Week  2

DAY 5: Wasting Away

Activity 1: Off the Menu [4 points]

Today I have to, tell you what I think about this rule why you think it!. The rule is if you go fishing where you are not allowed you can get charged  $100 000.

I think that if you are did not know that you were not allowed to fish there you should not be fined to much but still you should check if you are allowed to fish there. I that you should be charged because you are taking all the fish out of the water. Lots of people eat fish and it would be bad if there was none left.

Week 2
Day 4
Activity 3: Picture Perfect [10 points]

Today I am write a short story about what I think is happening in the picture. Making sure
to tell you where you think the people are and what you think they were doing at the time
that they stopped to pose for the selfie. To earn full points, the story must be 8 – 10
sentences long.

I am about to do the scariest thing of my life! I will be the first person to ever do
this. This is the world's largest  water slide. It is 20 km long and it takes 10
minutes to go down.

After I take a picture I turn on my go-pro and get into position. The crowd goes
wild the TV camera turn to me. My heart skips a beat my breath walm's up the air
thickens around me. As the crowd dials down I smile in frightens thinking this is
actually real. I get ready as the crowd counts down.  3 Lets do this, 2 I’m not to
shore now, 1 can't turn back now, 0 here I go Ahhhhhhh wow this is amazing!

Week 2

DAY 4: Spectacular, Spectacular

Activity 1: Planes, Trains and Automobiles [4 points
Today I had to imagine that I had the chance to visit Milford Sound by boat, foot
(walking) or air (helicopter). Which option would I prefer?
On my blog I have to tell you which of the three options I would take to explore
Milford Sound. Be sure to tell you  why I have chosen this option.
At the start of this year I went to the bottom of the south island and had a holiday
down there for my first time it was amazing. I went on a boat around the Milford
Sounds. So if I did it again I would maybe try something different.
I have never been in a helicopter before so that would be cool and you would get a
spectacular view.
But I really like going  on bush walks and it would be cool to see all the different
plants and animals there.
I think I would go on the helicopter but I would definitely go on the walk someday.

Week 1
Day 3
Activity 3: The Midnight Zone [10 points]
For this activity imagine that we were moving a squid in to a new room at Te Papa and the
average adult can lift 25 kg and the average child can lift 15 kg. So how many adults and
children will it take to move the giant squid that is 495 kgs into its new room at Te Papa? [Note:
There is more than one right answer to this question.]
On my blog, I am telling you how I will solve this maths problem. I could write your
answer in words, use a Sketchpad image or post a video explaining how I would figure
it out. I have to be sure to give you my final answer. .

The first way I did it was to round it up to 500 kg then divide it by 25kg  which equaled 20
people. Then I had to change the 500 kg to 495 kg. I took away one adult which was 25kg
from the 500kg which then equaled 475kg.  The remaining 20kg needed couldn’t be divided
by the 15kg a child could carry, so I removed another adult to leave 45 kg to be divided
between 3 children.  So 18 adults and 3 children can carry the squid.
My final answer:
So 18 adults and 3 children can carry the squid!

Week 2
DAY 3: First You ‘Sea’ Me, Now You Don’t…
Activity 1: Night Owls [4 points]
Today I am, telling you whether I am a night owl or an early riser. Then, telling you about
the rest of my family. Are they the same as me?

I wake up at about 7am or 8am and I go to bed at 7:00 pm at night because during school I have to get up
at 6:30am to get on the bus at 7: 15am in the morning. I do not like getting up that early but today my
sister woke up at 6:00 am because it is Christmas and they wanted to open presents before Dad and my
sister had to go to the farm to milk the cows. I did not mind it though because I was going to get up soon
because I wanted to open presents as well. My little sister wakes up so early - between 5:00am and
6:00am. I could not do that. She wakes up so early because she goes to bed at 7:00pm as well as me but
she falls asleep straight away and it takes me a bit longer I just lay in bed looking at the roof. She goes and
wakes up mum and asks mum if she can go and watch tv. So then mum is awake but I think that mum
would be awake between 6:30am and 7:00 am anyway. If my sister didn’t wake her because she is always
in bed reading her book but in the spring time she goes down the farm to feed the calves once we leave
for school. My older sister likes to sleep in till about 7:30 to 8:30 ish but lately she had been going down
the farm and helping Dad. She does not want to be having to wake at 7:00am to leave at 8:00am.
My Dad has to go and milk the cows so he is up sometimes at about 4:00 to 5:00 ish I do not know how
he does it he is always gone when I wake up. At night my dog comes and sleeps in my bed and on frosty
morning he does not get up for ages because it is to cold for him.
